Howard Pyle's Life Howard Pyle was born on March 5, 1853 in Wilmington, Delaware. When he was a kid, he liked to read adventure stories and tall tales such as "Grimm's Fairy Tales". Howard Pyle did not go to college. Instead, he studied art for three years in Philadelphia. He moved to New York City to work as a magazine illustrator after studying art. On 1880, he returned to Wilmington to write classic illustrated books such as "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood". These books were made all by himself so they were illustrated and wrote by him. He is often called the Father of American Illustration because he wrote and drew many famous classics. He then taught illustration for a while at Drexel Institute of Art (from 1894 to 1900) and founded the Brandywine School of Art.
